Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph Rock City Fitness a few different times, but after all the incredible updates owner Eric Maust has made to the studio, it was definitely time for a fresh set of images.
Eric has invested a lot into transforming the space, creating an even better environment for his clients while modernizing the look and feel of the gym. With those changes came the need for updated photography that could be used across his website and social media, helping showcase everything Rock City Fitness has to offer.
This session was especially meaningful for me because I actually used to train with Eric years ago. It had been a while since we’d caught up, so it was great to reconnect and see how much the business has grown. Watching someone turn their passion into a thriving community is always inspiring.
We kicked off the day by documenting one of Eric’s one-on-one personal training sessions. These moments are always some of my favorites because they capture genuine interaction, motivation, and the personalized coaching that clients experience every day. After that, we transitioned into one of the group fitness classes, where the energy in the room really came to life. The teamwork, encouragement, and intensity made for authentic images that perfectly represent the atmosphere inside Rock City Fitness.
Once we wrapped up the gym portion of the shoot, we decided to get a little creative. We stepped outside and created some unique portraits featuring Eric alongside his car and motorcycle. These weren’t your typical fitness branding photos, but that’s exactly what made them so much fun. Incorporating his personality and interests into the session created images that feel authentic and memorable while helping tell the story behind the business.
Sessions like these are one of the reasons I love commercial and branding photography. They give me the opportunity to think outside the box, experiment with creative lighting techniques, and push myself to create something different every time. Every business has its own story, and my goal is always to capture more than just a space—I want to capture the people and passion behind it.
It was great catching up with Eric and seeing firsthand how much Rock City Fitness has evolved over the years. I’m excited to see these new images help showcase everything the gym has become and support its continued growth in the Rochester Hills community.
If you’re a business owner looking to refresh your website, social media, or marketing materials with professional branding photography that truly represents your brand, I’d love to help tell your story.
