Madeline and Aaron’s engagement session in Detroit, Michigan was one of those sessions that felt like it was meant to happen from the very beginning.
I actually met Madeline in the most unexpected way — while I was shoe shopping at Hansons Running Shop. She overheard me mention that I was a photographer, we started talking, and we clicked right away. Not long after, Madeline and Aaron booked their engagement session with me, and I’m so glad they did.
We started their session at the historic Fisher Building, one of Detroit’s most beautiful and iconic landmarks. The building is massive, elegant, and filled with incredible details from the 1930s. Everywhere you look, there is stunning art deco design, both inside and outside the building. The Fisher Building has such a timeless Detroit feel, and it made the perfect backdrop for Madeline and Aaron’s photos.
Inside the Fisher Building is also the historic Fisher Theatre, which made the location feel even more special to me. My wife and I saw Wicked there a few years ago, so photographing an engagement session in the same building brought back some really great memories.
After spending time inside the Fisher Building, we headed over to the Cass Corridor, a really interesting section of Cass Avenue with teal walls, stunning arches, and so much character. This area gave us a completely different look and feel from the classic elegance of the Fisher Building. The colors, textures, and architecture made the photos feel fun, modern, and full of Detroit personality.
Once we finished exploring Cass Corridor, we made our way back to the Fisher Building for coffee and pastries at Stella Good Coffee, a small but seriously yummy coffee shop located right inside the building. It was the perfect way to wrap up the session and slow things down for a bit. You can check them out on Facebook here:

Madeline and Aaron were so easy to photograph. They were relaxed, kind, and completely themselves the entire time. Sessions like this are exactly why I love what I do — a random conversation while shoe shopping turned into a beautiful Detroit engagement session and the beginning of getting to document such an important season in their lives.
I’m so excited for Madeline and Aaron’s wedding this July at Sycamore Hills Golf Course. If their engagement session was any indication, their wedding day is going to be something really special.

Your story here, John, was wonderful. It was great hearing how you met Madeline at Hanson’s to your photographic session with this lovely couple in. downtown Detroit, a city that is special to both of them. Aaron’s has loved the city since he moved there. The joy they share was evident in your photos. I can only imagine how beautiful the wedding photos will be. Thank you for sharing g the way you did. God bless you!
