Some engagement sessions are extra meaningful because of the history behind them, and Shelby and Ayden’s was definitely one of those.
I first met Shelby years ago when we worked together as baristas at Starbucks in the Village of Rochester Hills. We spent countless shifts making coffee and chatting with customers, so it was such a full-circle moment when she reached out asking me to photograph her wedding. Seeing where life has taken us both over the years made this engagement session even more special.
For their portraits, we chose one of my favorite locations in Metro Detroit—Belle Isle. The island offers such a diverse variety of backdrops, making it perfect for couples who want a little bit of everything.
We began the evening with photos overlooking the Detroit skyline. From Belle Isle, you get one of the best views of the city, and it created an incredible backdrop for capturing Shelby and Ayden together. The combination of the water, skyline, and evening light never disappoints.
From there, we made our way to the recently renovated Belle Isle Casino. Once a historic gathering place, the building has been beautifully restored and is now serving as a unique wedding venue. Its architecture and surrounding grounds added an elegant touch to the session and provided some stunning variety in their gallery.
Of course, no trip to Belle Isle would be complete without stopping at my favorite location on the island—the Belle Isle Conservatory. The incredible design of the building creates a timeless look that photographs beautifully from every angle. Between the intricate architecture and lush surroundings, it’s one of those places that always inspires creativity and produces unforgettable images.
It was also great getting the chance to meet Ayden for the first time. The two of them were so comfortable together and made photographing them feel effortless. Their personalities complemented each other perfectly, and it was easy to see how excited they are for this next chapter.
Now I’m looking forward to celebrating with them again this September at The Holly Vault. I’m honored to be part of their wedding day and can’t wait to capture all the moments that make their story unique.
Congratulations again, Shelby and Ayden! Thank you for trusting me to document such an exciting season of your lives, and I can’t wait to see you both again in September.
